Caligor Rx Presents Penn and USciences Bioethicist at the 2010 Clinical Trial Supply East Coast Conference
NEW YORK, Thursday Oct 14th, 2010
Caligor Rx, one of the leading clinical trial procurement companies in the world, is sponsoring a special presentation entitled, “Ethical Considerations in Global Clinical Trials Supplies: The New GCPs - Good Clinical Procurement Practices,” at the 2010 Clinical Trial Supply East Coast Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue. The presentation will be held at 3PM on Wednesday October 20th, and a link to register for the conference is provided below.
The presentation will focus on the ethical considerations for sourcing comparator drugs through the clinical supply chain. Specifically:
- How good clinical procurement practices can be seen as an ethical derivation of the International Conference on Harmonisation’s Good Clinical Practices and its focus on research integrity;
- The dangers of unethical or poorly controlled clinical trial supply sourcing on research integrity (e.g., diversion of trial medicines; use of placebos when clinical equipoise is absent); and
- To what extent companies have an ethical and scientific duty to supply comparator drugs for trials.
The keynote speaker at this session is Professor David Perlman, Ph.D., a highly regarded bioethicist from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USciences) and University of Pennsylvania (Penn). At USciences, Dr. Perlman is the Mayes College of Pharmaceutical Business and Health Policy Fellow and Visiting Professor. At Penn, Dr. Perlman is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing and an Associate at the Center for Bioethics. Dr. Perlman’s background in industry and academia provides him with unique insight into the ethical challenges associated with conducting global clinical trials. In addition to his academic accomplishments and appointments, Dr. Perlman founded and directs a unique ethics education company, E4 - Eclipse Ethics Education Enterprises. E4 creates engaging, realistic, and memorable ethics education using a variety of interactive technologies for live or online deployment. Dr. Perlman’s presentation will be conducted through E4 and utilize live audience response to engage participants and increase ethical awareness.
